Water main break causing disruptions in Hollywood, freeway exit ramp closed

Los Angeles, California – A freeway exit ramp in Hollywood was closed early Thursday morning due to a damaged water main.

The North Highland Avenue exit ramp from the northbound 101 Freeway was flooded as a result of the burst pipe. A flood warning is in effect until at least 10 a.m., with the ramp expected to stay shut until then.

There was at least one stranded vehicle that had to be dragged out of the water.

The burst happened on a 12-inch cast iron pipe that was originally installed in the 1930s. Water was turned off in an adjacent apartment complex early Thursday morning, causing service disruptions.

Residents in the area should expect service to be restored no later than Thursday afternoon.
