Sinkhole formed, streets flooded after a water main burst in Hollywood Hills

Los Angeles, California – A sinkhole formed in a Hollywood Hills neighborhood as a result of a water main break early Monday morning.

The water pipe burst shortly after midnight near Cahuenga Boulevard on Cahuenga Terrace, but there was no significant damage or flooding to surrounding structures.

Crews from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reacted immediately and turned off the water. However, as a result of the break, an approximately 10-foot wide and 5-foot deep sinkhole was created in the ground, and at least nine LADWP customers were left without service in the neighborhood.

No information about the cause of the break was released.

This is the fourth time in the last year that this particular water main has burst.
