Man admitted to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound inflicted by accident after hearing gunfire outside

Long Beach, California – Long Beach police were notified about a man with gunshot wounds admitted to a hospital on Thursday evening.

Authorities said officers were sent to the hospital to investigate the report around 7:45 p.m. The patient informed officers that he shot himself by accident while grabbing a gun inside his North Beach home near the 100 block of West 49th Street after hearing gunshots coming from outside.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the man sustained a wound to the lower body when the weapon went off as he was retrieving it, and then he got into his vehicle and drove himself to the hospital seeking treatment.

According to the information provided by authorities, the man received treatment for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and he is expected to fully recover soon.

After talking to the man in the hospital, officers went to his home to investigate his allegations and found evidence outside his residence that supported his story and indicated that a shooting took place outside, including bullet casings.

There were no other reported injuries.

An investigation is underway.
