Long Beach man arrested after argument on East Broadway turns violent and ends in stabbing

Long Beach, California – A late-evening argument in Long Beach turned violent over the weekend, leaving one man hospitalized and another in police custody as investigators work to determine exactly what led up to the stabbing.

According to Long Beach Police Department, officers were called to the 600 block of East Broadway around 7 p.m. Sunday after reports of a fight between two men. Police said the dispute involved 31-year-old Darien Barrett of Long Beach, who was arguing with another man when the confrontation escalated.

Argument escalates into stabbing

Authorities said the argument became physical, and Barrett allegedly stabbed the other man multiple times during the altercation. Officers arriving at the scene found the victim suffering from stab wounds and requested immediate medical assistance.

Personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department transported the injured man to a local hospital. Police said the victim was treated for multiple stab wounds, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, offering some relief amid the violence.

Following the incident, officers located and arrested Barrett. Police said he was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and making a criminal threat. His bail was set at $50,000, according to the department.

Investigators have not released details about what sparked the argument or whether the men knew each other before the incident. The case remains under active investigation, and police said additional information may be released as detectives continue reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
