Identity of man killed in North Long Beach accident released

Long Beach, California – The identity of the man who died after being hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue last week has been released by county authorities.

The victim was identified as Willie Jackson, 48, by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers discovered Jackson at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday after responding to reports of a man who had been lying unresponsive in the roadway.

Jackson was stuck underneath a vehicle when officers arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead by paramedics.

According to the coroner’s office, Jackson died as a result of severe injuries sustained after being hit by the vehicle. His death was ruled accidental.

The driver of the vehicle that struck Jackson was a 17-year-old boy.

“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Distracted driving, speeding and impaired driving do not appear to have been a factor in this collision,” police said.

According to authorities, the driver, who did not have a driver’s license, was released into the custody of a parent at the scene.
