Memorial ceremony scheduled for a police officer who died in a helicopter crash

Huntington Beach, California – After a parade through the streets of Huntington Beach, police will hold a memorial ceremony for fallen officer Nicholas Vella, who died tragically in a helicopter accident last month.

Nicholas Vella, 44, of Huntington Beach, died in a helicopter crash off the coast of Newport Beach on February 19th. Another officer was also involved in the crash, and was released from the hospital after receiving treatment.

Vella was a veteran of the Huntington Beach Police Department with 18 years of experience, including 14 years on the force. He worked in Laguna Beach before joining the Huntington Beach Police Department.

The parade in honor of Vella will start at 7 a.m. at the Huntington Beach Police Department, located at 2000 Main St., and will proceed down Goldenwest Street between Yorktown Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, continuing on Pacific Coast Highway to Magnolia Avenue, and then on to Talbert Avenue to Brookhurst Street.

The memorial ceremony will be held at the Honda Center, located at 2695 E. Katella Ave. in Anaheim.

A livestream of the event will be available on the city’s YouTube account for anyone who wants to watch it.
