Suspect in Long Beach fatal shooting taken into custody

Long Beach, California – Long Beach police have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on Monday evening in Long Beach.

Officers were sent late Monday evening, at approximately 10:30 p.m., to the 4900 block of Long Beach Boulevard in response to a report of a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, the man was already dead when responding crews arrived.

Authorities said the initial investigation has shown that the incident may have been gang-related.

Witnesses at the scene gave a description of the suspect responsible for the death of the man to police, and one day later, on Tuesday, they arrested him.

The shooter was a 23-year-old Long Beach resident, Marco Quintanilla Ortega. According to the police, a handgun was discovered in his possession and seized during the course of the arrest.

Ortega is being held on $2 million bail on one count of suspicion of murder.

Authorities were not able to ascertain a motive in the incident yet.

The name of the victim was not made public at the time of this writing.
