Police chase resulted in the arrest of a man suspected of an attempted abduction of a minor

Anaheim, California – A police chase resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old man suspected of the attempted abduction of a 13-year-old girl.

The pickup truck, driven by Andrew Pio, was stopped around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Lambert Road and Sunflower Street in Brea, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Steve Pena, because the vehicle matched the description of a truck used in the attempted abduction of the teenage girl on March 31.

The driver did not obey the police orders and continued driving, prompting a police pursuit through the 57 and 5 freeways, which lasted approximately an hour.

Spike strips were used by California Highway Patrol officers to deflate the tires of the truck and the trailer it was towing, according to Pena.

Pio was arrested near the La Paz Road off-ramp of the Santa Ana Freeway.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A thorough investigation is now taking place to see if Pio was involved in the attempted kidnapping of the girl. She was walking home from Dale Junior High School in the 2600 block of West Ball Road when the incident happened.

Pio was taken into custody for evading a police officer.
