Long Beach man killed, woman wounded in an unprovoked shooting incident
Long Beach, California – A shooting in the area of MacArthur Park late Friday night resulted in the death of a 24-year-old Long Beach man and left a woman with injuries, according to the police.
The incident happened near Walnut Avenue and 14th Street just before midnight. Three men approached the victim as he was walking through the area and shot him several times.
A female driver was also shot multiple times by the suspects while they were trying to leave the area.
People nearby rendered aid to the victims while waiting for the police. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers performed life-saving techniques on the victims. When crews from the Long Beach Fire Department got to the scene, they took the victims to a hospital for further medical treatment.
The man died at the hospital while the woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was said to be in stable condition.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, neither of the victims is believed to have known each other, and the attack is considered to be unprovoked.
The man who died was identified by police as Duwayane Thomas, 24, of Long Beach.
Investigators are working to locate the suspects and determine the motive of the shooting.
