Victims of a fatal crash in Compton identified
Long Beach, California – Authorities yesterday released the names of two females who died in a fatal crash. According to multiple sources, the vehicle they were traveling with collided at a Compton intersection with an incoming SUV that is believed to have been taking part in an illegal street takeover.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal accident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday when the two women in a red Honda sedan crashed into the SUV at the intersection of Stockwell Street and Wilmington Avenue.
One of the victims was ejected from the Honda as a result of the crash. Both women were pronounced dead.
The victims have been identified as 20-year-old Michellie Gonzalez from Cudahy and 18-year-old Long Beach resident, Jennyfer Flores.
People nearby have said that an illegal street takeover was taking place in the area before the accident occurred.
Information on whether the red Honda was involved in the illegal street takeover was not released.
The driver of the SUV, Treyshawn Cooley, reportedly told police he crossed the intersection on a green light. He sustained minor injuries in the crash.
