Suspect in a hit-and-run that claimed the life of an elderly man arrested by police

Los Angeles, California – The woman who is suspected of killing an elderly man by running him over with his own vehicle and then fleeing the scene has been arrested by authorities on Sunday.

According to Los Angeles Police Officer J. Chaves, the crash was initially reported as an assault with a deadly weapon around 2:30 on Saturday afternoon in the 2400 block of Fern Dell Drive.

According to a police department statement, Valeriy Saakyan lost his balance, fell to the ground, and was deliberately run over by his own light blue 2006 Lexus at the parking lot on the park’s Western Canyon Road.

Saakyan was taken by paramedics to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

At around 10 a.m. on Sunday, LAPD Hollywood Station officers were on patrol between Lexington Avenue and Vine Street when they saw a car with collision damage and a blue tarp covering it. They later learned the car was sought in connection with a felony hit-and-run.

Police added that the suspect operating the vehicle, identified as Sonia Sovereign, 32, was arrested after exiting the car. Sonia admitted the crime after being questioned by police and is currently being held on $1 million bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center on suspicion of murder.
