Long Beach opens registration for more than 700 fall recreation classes designed for residents of all ages

Long Beach, California – The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is preparing for another busy recreation season by offering more than 700 classes, activities, sports programs, and leagues this fall for residents of all ages and interests.

Registration for both new and returning recreation programs begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026. Community members can sign up online, in person, or by mail. Because many of the city’s most popular classes reach capacity quickly, officials encourage residents to register as early as possible to secure a place.

The fall schedule includes programs beginning in September and continuing through November, providing opportunities for children, teens, adults, and older adults to learn new skills, stay active, and connect with others in the community.

Programs designed for every age group

For the youngest participants, preschool classes focus on learning through fun, movement, and social interaction.

Among the offerings is Parent and Me Pre-K Readiness, where children between 2 years, 4 months and 5 years old can practice letter and number recognition, phonics, math, fine motor skills, and outdoor play alongside a parent or guardian.

Young performers can join Mini Musical Theatre, where children from 2 years, 7 months to 5 years old will sing Broadway favorites while learning acting techniques, emotional expression, and choreography.

Children interested in sports can participate in Tot Soccer, designed for youngsters 3 years, 6 months through 5 years old, helping them develop coordination and motor skills through games and basic soccer activities.

Older children also have a wide variety of enrichment opportunities.

The Shotokan Karate program teaches students 5 to 13 years old traditional martial arts while building confidence, strength, discipline, and an understanding of Japanese customs and respect.

Children ages 5 to 11 can participate in the Halloween Kids Choir, learning both classic and modern family-friendly Halloween songs before performing for an audience later in the session.

Creative students between 7 and 15 years old can enroll in Let’s Make a Short Film, where they will write scripts, cast performers, rehearse scenes, and produce their own short films while strengthening teamwork and storytelling abilities.

Opportunities for teens adults and seniors

Teen participants also have several new and returning programs available.

One of the newest additions is Strength, Sweat and Stretch, a full-body fitness class open to participants 16 years and older. The class combines resistance training, cardiovascular exercise, agility work, and yoga-inspired stretching to improve strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Another practical offering is Babysitter, First Aid, CPR and AED Training, where participants 11 years and older can develop valuable life-saving skills while preparing for babysitting responsibilities.

Music enthusiasts ages 12 to 16 can enroll in Teen Guitar, where instructors provide hands-on guidance while teaching chords, songs, and essential guitar techniques. Instruments will be provided during class.

Adults can also choose from numerous fitness, cultural, and recreational opportunities.

Programs include Tai Chi and Qigong, where participants 18 and older practice slow, controlled movements that promote relaxation and overall wellness.

Pet owners can improve communication with their dogs through Dog Behavior Training 101 – Positive Reinforcement, which teaches practical commands and behaviors for everyday situations.

Those interested in dance can register for Salsa! Salsa!, a class introducing adults to energetic Latin dance styles and techniques.

Older adults have several options specifically designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and social engagement.

These include Senior Line Dancing, allowing participants 50 years and older to stay active while learning new dance routines and meeting friends.

Senior Fitness combines light strength training with low-impact aerobic exercise, while Spanish for Seniors offers conversational language lessons focused on travel, daily communication, and social interaction.

Residents may register beginning Aug. 3 at 8 a.m. through LBParks.org using the LB RecConnect online registration system. Registration is also available in person at the Registration Reservations Office, located at 2760 Studebaker Road, during regular business hours, or by mailing completed registration materials to the same address.

City officials say the extensive fall schedule reflects Long Beach’s commitment to providing affordable recreational, educational, cultural, and wellness opportunities that help residents of every age remain active, continue learning, and build stronger community connections throughout the season.
